Galway Student Guide provides general, experience-based information for students and visitors. By using the site, you agree to use the information responsibly and to confirm important details with the relevant official authority or provider.

Information, not professional advice

The site is not legal, immigration, medical, financial, tax or housing advice. Rules, prices, timetables, availability and eligibility can change. Official government, university, transport, healthcare and service-provider information takes priority.

No guarantee

We try to keep the guide accurate and useful, but do not guarantee that every item is complete, current or suitable for your circumstances. Use of the site is at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site owner is not liable for loss arising from reliance on the guide or from third-party services.

Emergencies

This is not an emergency service. In Ireland, call 112 or 999 for an immediate emergency. For urgent health, safety, immigration, housing or legal matters, contact the appropriate official service.

Links are provided for convenience. We do not control external sites, their availability, security, prices, content or privacy practices, and a link does not guarantee endorsement. Check the final price, conditions and official source before buying or acting.

Changes and fair use

We may update, remove or reorganise content at any time. Original text, design and branding may not be republished commercially without permission. Short quotations with a clear credit and link are welcome where permitted by law. Third-party photographs and marks remain subject to their stated licences and owners’ rights.

Privacy

Galway Student Guide does not currently ask you to create an account, submit a form or provide personal information directly to the guide.

Your reading preferences

Text size, spacing and background preferences are saved in your browser’s local storage. They are not sent to Galway Student Guide. Use Reset reading options or clear this site’s browser data to remove them.

Your checklist

Checklist selections are saved in your browser’s local storage so they remain checked when you return. They are not sent to Galway Student Guide. You can erase them with the checklist reset buttons or by clearing this site’s browser data.

Hosting and technical data

The hosting platform and normal internet infrastructure may process limited technical information—such as IP address, browser details, request time and security logs—to deliver and protect the site. Their processing is governed by their own applicable terms and privacy notices.

Helpful votes

When you choose “Helpful”, we save the section, vote time and a random browser identifier so repeated taps do not add extra votes. The identifier is created only when you vote and is stored on this device; it is not your name or email. Your votes stay selected on this browser. We publish only section totals, and do not store your IP address in the voting database. Clearing browser storage or using another device can allow another vote. View the section totals.

Optional usage statistics

If you choose “Allow usage counts”, we record section views and opens, map launches, budget-tool and checklist use, and link clicks. We record an action type, section or destination category, page path, random action ID and time. Amazon book clicks may include a book ISBN; other external links record only the destination hostname. We do not record your budget amounts, checklist answers, name, email, IP address or a persistent visitor identifier in this event database. Counts measure actions, not verified people, and may include automation.

No optional usage events are sent before you opt in. Choose “Usage preferences” in the footer at any time to allow or stop future counts. We respect browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Your choice and device testing preference are stored locally. Raw usage events are available to the owner; the dashboard shows the latest 30 days. Hosting analytics are separate. Signed-in owner actions and browsers in testing mode are excluded from the guide’s new usage counts and helpful votes; this does not change the hosting platform’s traffic graph. Existing helpful votes are retained.

Interactive map

When the map is displayed, map tiles load from OpenStreetMap’s servers, which receive normal request data such as your IP address and browser details. Place filtering runs in your browser. The map does not request your live location. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.

External sites

Following a link to maps, app stores, retailers, government services or other websites means that service may collect data under its own privacy policy. Review it before sharing personal or payment information.

The guide is independently written. Recommendations reflect practical experience and editorial judgement, not a promise that a product or service will suit everyone.
